Itinerary
Day 01 | Arrive into Cochin. Take a walking tour of this historic city with its ancient churches, synagogue, museums & the Chinese fishing nets along the short beach of Fort Kochi. In the evening attend the classical Kathakali dance performance. Activity: Walking tour | Cochin |
Day 02 | After an early breakfast, begin the journey through spice plantations to the lowland forests of Thattekkad, set on the banks of the Periyar River. The overnight stay will be at a riverside camp. Activity: 60Km Cycling | Thattekkad |
Day 03 | The day starts with a cycle ride up to Munnar (at an altitude of over 1600m). Pass through high altitude forests, manicured tea gardens, cardamom plantations and winding roads before ending at your resort in a cardamom forest. Munnar is famed for its trekking routes and in the afternoon you may opt for a trek or a cycling trip through the wonderfully laid tea gardens through the quiet country roads. Day 04 | After a very early breakfast, head for a trek through the Western Ghats. Passing through high altitude forests, known as The Sholas heading up to Meesapulimala the second highest peak in the Western Ghats, at 2640 metres. Activity: Full day trek. | Munnar |
Day 05 | A fun day biking down to the beautiful Anaerangal Lake (literally meaning the ‘Lake where the elephants come down’) and through ‘manicured’ tea estates to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Rest of the day to relax at the resort. Activities: Cycling 70 Kms, local visits | Periyar |
Day 06 | A day in Periyar, head out on a wildlife safari or visit the tribal villages and spice plantations. | Periyar |
Day 07 | After breakfast head out by bike for a beautiful journey, through rubber plantations, farmlands, orchards and markets, ending at the backwater town of Alleppey. On arrival, board the houseboat for a leisurely and luxurious way to see the backwaters & countryside villages. Activity: Cycling 55 Kms, Transfer 90 Kms | Houseboat |
Day 08 | Disembark after breakfast and then kayak through the narrow canals of Pulinkunnu to the island of Kavalam, the historical home of the affluent farmers. Witness village life with the locals who are engaged in farming, fishing, duck rearing and shell collection. Also see the traditional toddy tappers at work on coconut palms. Stop for lunch at a coconut grove on the lake shore then continue kayaking into the beautiful heritage resort where a delicious Kuttanadan dinner awaits. Activity: Full day kayaking. | Backwaters |
Day 09,10, 11 | The last day of cycling with a route which passes through country roads and small villages where you will see coconut husk being processed and made into coir ropes and mats. Wind down by spending the afternoon on the beach. Activities: Cycling 30 Kms | Marari |
